The Church of God vs Sectarianism
by Debra Adams

"This Sunday, don't just send your children to Sunday school, take them. Go to the church of your choice." We have heard these words for generations! American history tells how our founding fathers crossed perilous seas seeking freedom to worship God without fear of persecution. The first amendment to the United States Constitution states that Congress shall not establish any religion. And people have been setting up their own ways of worship ever since; the call for religious tolerance is louder than ever. It is amazing that society is more concerned about freedom to worship than how to worship. There are over 1,000 religions registered in the U. S. yet our country is morally decayed. Jesus commented, Ye worship ye know not what. (John 4:22) Apostle Paul said, For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore you ignorantly worship. (Acts 17:23)

It has been said, it is in mankind to worship God, but how to worship is far beyond him. The church-of-your-choice gives you many options on what to believe and how to serve God. However, wisdom would have us to consider God's Word. The Almighty did not leave us in the dark concerning how to serve him according to his will. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24)

When Jesus Christ stood before Pontius Pilate's judgment seat he declared, ...for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice. (John 18:37b) Pilate responded with a question that has been asked throughout the ages: "What is truth?" Sadly, he turned about and walked away before Christ could give him an answer. People are the same today. They will question their faith and profess to seek the truth, but will not be still and listen for Jesus to impart truth to them. Instead they will join a church that entertains and makes them feel comfortable in their sins.

Truth yet calls out to religious sinners –

For God hath not called us to uncleaness, but unto holiness.
~ 1 Thessalonians 4:7

Nevertheless, the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his, and let everyone that nameth the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.
~ 2 Timothy 2:19

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
~ 1 John 1:9

There is one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called into one hope of your calling; one Lord one faith one baptism, one God and Father of all...
~ Ephesians 4:4-6a

And he gave some apostles and some prophets and some evangelists and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all some in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the son of God...
~ Ephesians 4:11-13a

So we see that God will faithfully cleanse us from all unrighteousness when we confess our past committed sins to him and will place us in one spiritual body, the church. The- church-of-your-choice declares they are sinners saved by grace, and that no one is perfect but Jesus. Each sect teaches a different doctrine and carries a different name. Jesus said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. (John 7:16-17) As for the name, the Apostle Paul admonished the elders (not reverends) of the church ...to feed the church of God, which he [Jesus] hath purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28)

In summary, God has one church of which all members are born-again believers living holy, sin-free lives. They wear their Father's name: the Church of God. They are called out of sinful and religious confusion to worship and serve him in spirit and in truth. All other religions are man-made. Their doctrines are not according to the truth and they offer no victory over sin. If God's church is the gateway to Heaven, then man-made, sectarian denominational churches are nothing more than Satan's gateway to Hell. That being said, will you still go to the church-of-your-choice?
